  2. Outline Keys to successful collaborations! • Don’t collaborate with just anyone or you may end up doing a lot of work but with no publications. Here’s one approach to successful collaborations, i.e. publications! • Set your research goals (ICA) • Align the appropriate collaborator(s) • Meet your research goals

Be Goal Oriented ICA – Set your SMART goals Set research goals Examples: “Present two conference papers at regional or national db conferences by the third year of my Ph.D. program.” “Incorporate feedback from conference and send to journal within 30 days of conference.” “Before I graduate, I will have at least 3 working papers ready to send to journals AFTER I graduate (so that it will count towards my tenure).” Align Collaborators Meet goals Questions
