  10. How did people measure speed before certain devices were invented? • All speed tracking devices measure the time interval it takes to travel a distance. A time interval is the elapsed time between two events. For example: the start and finish of a race

  11. Build Background: Speed • An object in motion takes time to change its position. • Speed is the measurement of the rate of change in position and can be linear or rotational. • Many moving objects do not travel at a constant speed.

  12. To measure speed • The distance or the length between two points that are measured. • Speed measurement units are distance and time unit. For example: miles per hour (mph) or degrees per second (dps)

  14. Why do you think you are asked to complete 3 trials? • Repeating a trial several times improves the quality of the data. • Error or unavoidable inaccuracies that occur because no measurement can be made with perfect precision.
