  5. Andrija Mohorovicic (1857-1936) discovered this change in seismic velocity when he examined the primitive seismograms from the October 8, 1909 Kupa Valley Earthquake. • The epicenter of the earthquake was about 39 km southeast of Zagreb, Croatia.

  6. The Mohorovicic Discontinuity, or "Moho", is the boundary between the crust and the mantle. • At the Mohorovicic Discontinuity the P-wave velocity increases from under 7 km/sec for the crust (granite like materials) to over 8 km/sec for the mantle (basalt like materials)
