  4. Sorry…they were sent PREMATURELY. • Information from card will need to be entered on A05. • Cards must not be discarded. They will be used either later this year, or next year. Emergency Contact Cards

  5. This roll out is in its infancy. TAKE NO ACTION AT THIS TIME. • Proposed change: When student reaches age 18, he/she can: • withdraw self. • excuse own absences. • sign permission slips. • make educational deisions. • Student can waive this right back to either/both parents. • Parent who can proved dependency through IRS tax return can regain ability to VIEW educational records. COMING SOON: Age of Majority Changes (A05)

  6. Some District Issues occurred in July. All were cleared up. • MANY phone calls from parents who felt ill-informed regarding GPA. • Some key items to review to avoid rejections: • A06-immunizaitons • A04-detail (grad date) • A03-SSN • A22-testing met • A07-no blank lines • A13-all grades are letters; all years are numbers • After signing on to your school’s BF account, use the HELP tab. There is GREAT information there for counselors!!!!! Bright Futures Issues

  7. Four Cohorts, four sets of requirements: • 9th graders: Algebra II credit required (No EOC in Alg II), must pass EOC Alg., Geo., Bio. (FCAT Reading only) • 10th graders: Online Requirement, Must pass Algebra EOC, Must take Geo EOC (30%), Bio EOC (30%), Biology Credit required (FCAT Reading only) • 11th graders: Must take EOC Algebra (30%) Geometry credit required. (FCAT Reading) • 12th grade: Old graduation requirements. (FCAT Math and Reading) Graduation Requirements

  8. W06 report will come out earlier than expected (target 9/1). • W06 report will assume student will earn a C or higher in all courses on schedule. • Use this report to see if you need to adjust any Senior schedules. W06 Report

  9. Keep in mind: This year’s school grade will credit schools for 5th year graduates. • A student who takes courses through FLVS and then graduates through your school is your graduate. 5th Year Seniors

Grade Averaging is part of State Statute and part of SBBC Policy 6000.1 • If a student passes one semester of a year-long course, but fails the other, you can AVERAGE the two grades if: • Student earned a C or higher on final exam of failed semester. • Student had fewer than five absences during the failed semester. • Make two grade changes and use grade averaging as the reason for grade change.   11. The test counts beginning this school year. • It will always be a 30% of full credit grade. • Only students in 21003100 and 21003200 will take the EOC. (We are not using recovery number that was also included.) • Just like 30% cohorts, credit will not be awarded until all three parts of the puzzle are in place (Semester 1, Semester 2, EOC) EOC US History

  12. Look at the Assessment Status (AS) code on the A13 for EOC courses. This will tell you A LOT. • 30% cohort courses will have AS of Z. Student will maintain an I in any 30% cohort course until they have attempted the EOC. EOC and Assessment Status

  13. On a P/F EOC: • A=took test/passed test • B=took test/failed test • C=did not take test • D=Transfer student, exempt (CAUTION…this is under review!!!!) • E=CAP (just passed test, no course) • F=ESE, EOC Waived More on EOC and Assessment Status

This year is a field test for Civics. • Next year (2014) EOC will count as 30% of students’ Civics grade. • The following year (2015) students must pass Civics EOC for promotion to HS. • All seventh graders must be scheduled in Civics as their SS course beginning this year. Middle School:EOC Civics

This is moved to 8th grade, beginning next year. • If current 8th graders missed career education in grade 7, then you must schedule them in for 8th this year. • An 8th grade Social Studies teacher may have two course codes during the same period (one with career planning/one without career planning) • We are no longer using Career Visions. • Career Education will be embedded into all areas of 8th grade, but still tied to the 8th grade Social Studies course. • JA World will become a big part of meeting the MS Career Education requirement. On June 15, 2012, Janet Napolitano, Secretary for Homeland Security, issued a memorandum calling for use of the agency’s prosecutorial discretion to defer action against certain young people who were brought to this country as children, who know only the United States as home, and who, as a general matter, lack the intent to violate the law.  Requests for relief pursuant to this memorandum are to be decided on a case-by-case basis based on the appropriate satisfaction of a number or requirements. Students are eligible if: • Arrived US before age 16. • Continuously lived in US for five years prior to 6/15/12. • Currently in school, HS Grad, GED recipient or Honorably discharged from armed services. • No felony, serious misdemeanor ,threat to national security. • Not above 30. If student meets criteria, direct to RECORDS RETENTION!

  22. Going to Board for final reading on 8/21/12. • Procedural Manuals are READY. You will see them on 8/21/12 if Board adopts policy. Policy 6000.1: Student Progression

  23. Class rank will now be based upon Cohort. • Even if a student graduates early or late, he/she will still be ranked with original cohort. • One year after graduation, class rank will become frozen. WGPA and Class Rank

  24. No more APEXin high school • We will no longer use or accept recovery numbers for high school credit. (Exception: if you had approved these before today through FLVS, we will accept.) • If you requested high school VLL Recovery numbers, they have already been changed to regular numbers. • Middle School recovery options are being examined. More information will follow. Recovery
