Mission and history of the program

Mission and History of the Program

  • The University of Utah's Interdepartmental Graduate Program in Neuroscience is an interdepartmental graduate program designed to provide predoctoral students with a broad-based training in neuroscience disciplines.

    • Established in 1986 (Run by steering committee headed by Tom Parks)

    • Only interdepartmental program at U of U that offers a Ph.D.

    • Established to offer students broader training in neuroscience and a wider choice of mentors than a conventional, disciplinary program

    • Also established to offer students/faculty opportunities for Ph.D. students to train in clinical departments

  • Current structure with directorate and committees established in 1994.

    • Directorate, Curriculum Committee, Recruiting and Admissions Committee.

      • Toto Olivera (1994-1996), Rick Laseter (1996-2004), Mary Lucero (2005-2011)
