In the example below, Duke Dog has three bank accounts where his pay is deposited. Direct Deposit Banking Information

  5. J-Ess Tutorial – Field Name Definitions • Account Type – type of your bank account for direct deposit; options are Savings or Checking • Deposit Type – tells JMU how to allocate your direct deposit funds across accounts; options are Amount, Percent, and Balance • Amount - a fixed dollar amount you choose, such as $50 per direct deposit transaction • Percent - a percentage of the total direct deposit amount, such as 10% per direct deposit transaction • Balance - the remaining dollar amount after other deposit types have been processed. It is not necessary to designate an amount or percentage to this deposit type because it is processed last and includes all remaining funds. • Amount/Percent – based on the deposit type chosen, the associated dollar amount or percentage • Routing Number – bank-specific number used to route funds appropriately • Account Number – bank account number for savings or checking account • Deposit Order – the order in which your money will be deposited to the designated accounts Direct Deposit Banking Information

  8. J-Ess Tutorial – Edit Existing Account From the main page, click the Edit button beside the account you wish to update. You can update the account type, deposit type, amount/percent, routing number, account number and deposit order. Direct Deposit Banking Information

  9. J-Ess Tutorial – Add New Account Add a new account when you want to distribute your deposit to multiple accounts. For example, you may want $50 of every deposit to go to your savings account, $50 to go to a savings account for your child, and the balance to go to your joint checking account. You may have up to four accounts. Direct Deposit Banking Information

  10. J-Ess Tutorial – Balance Account You must always have exactly one account with a Deposit Type=Balance. This is referred to as your “balance account” and can only be edited and never deleted. When you edit, you will notice that you can change only the account type, routing and account numbers. If you have more than one account, your balance account will be used as a “catch all” for the funds remaining after other accounts have processed. If you try to create a new balance account, you will receive an error message. Direct Deposit Banking Information

  11. J-Ess Tutorial – Account Type/Deposit Type After clicking the Edit button, proceed to update information as needed. All fields are required, but you do not need to update them if the information is unchanged. For example, you may want to simply adjust the amount of each direct deposit that goes to your Savings account. Direct Deposit Banking Information

  12. J-Ess Tutorial – Amount or Percentage The Deposit Type and Amount/Percent fields work together to determine how much money of your direct deposit is allocated to this bank account. If you select Percent as your Deposit Type, be sure the number you enter in the Amount/Percent field corresponds to the type (e.g. 10 percent of a $1,000 paycheck is $100 versus a fixed $10 allocation). 13. J-Ess Tutorial – Routing Number When updating the Routing Number, J-Ess will confirm that you have entered a valid number by populating the bank name after you have tabbed or clicked off the routing number field. If you do not see a bank name appear, check your routing number. The changes will not save without an accurate routing number and you will receive an error message when you attempt to save. Invalid Routing Number Valid Routing Number Direct Deposit Banking Information

  14. J-Ess Tutorial – Account Number Take extra care when entering your bank account number. An incorrect number will cause your direct deposit to go to an incorrect account or possibly to another person’s account. If you need help locating your bank routing and account numbers, click “View check example” from the Edit page. Use your personal checks to locate your routing and account information. 15. J-Ess Tutorial – Deposit Order The Deposit Order of each account determines the order in which your direct deposit funds are processed. If you have more than one account, you must designate the processing order. If you enter a duplicate deposit order, you will receive an error message when you click or tab off of the field. 16. J-Ess Tutorial – Acknowledgement With the ability to update your direct deposit banking information comes a responsibility to make sure the information is accurate to avoid any delays in your pay reaching your account. When adding a new account or updating an existing account, you must acknowledge that you understand this responsibility prior to saving. You will receive an error message if you do not check the acknowledgement box. Direct Deposit Banking Information

  17. J-Ess Tutorial – Save Confirmation If you completed all of the required fields and marked the acknowledgement box, you should receive a Save confirmation message after clicking “Save” on the editing screen. Click OK to return to the main Direct Deposit page. Direct Deposit Banking Information

  18. J-Ess Tutorial – View Changes The Direct Deposit main page reflects your change from a $325 Amount to a 10% Percent allocation. Direct Deposit Banking Information
