  1. Exercise Science Internships MOV 490 6-12 credits

Internship – MOV 490 6 -12 Credits(pre-requisite – MOV 475 & permission of instructor) • 300 – 600 hours • 20-40 hrs/week X 15 weeks • No class time • Course assignments • Internship Expo – Final Presentation • Setting of interest as approved by Internship Coordinator • Needs to meet minimum expectations (as stated in intern manual) • Permit required – given after site is secured and approved, pgs 11-15 of internship manual are turned in & health compliance is complete

Internship Search • Start Early • 1-2 semesters prior to starting • Polish resume & interview skills • Seek assistance from Career Center • Determine your references • Internship Manual– Take with you • Know exactly what you are expected to learn/experience – the sites will ask • Study the manual and review our Internship Website • Date to secure • March 1st (spring/summer semester) • July 1st for (fall semester) • November 1st for (winter semester)

Site Approval • www.gvsu.edu/move-sci • Approved Sites • Complete & turn in pages 11-15 of the internship manual (posted on-line) • New Site (page 3 of internship manual) • Need to provide Professor Peddie with contact information • Need a plan/outline for experiences – written by site & student • Need to provide supervisor credentials/experiences • Professor Peddie must approve • Site must agree to GVSU legal contract to be approved

Health Compliance Requirements for all Interns: • The health compliance requirements are to be completed during the semester you are registered for MOV 475. • Details of the requirements, including deadlines, testing procedures and screening protocols will be reviewed at the start of your MOV 475 semester as a part of a meeting lead by the health compliance officer.

  6. Health Compliance Requirements 1. Cardiopulmonary Resuscitation - CPR/First Aid2. Physical Exam and Immunizations Form 3. Hep B Titer Blood Draw4. Criminal Background Check 5. Drug Screen 6.  Tuberculosis Screening 7.  Annual Tuberculosis and Infection Control Training 8.  Annual HIPAA Training 9.  Annual Bloodborne Pathogens Training 10.  Student Authorization to Receive and Release Information

FAQs • Does the internship/fieldwork need to be within the semester dates? • Yes for fieldwork • Yes for internship, however 1-2 week early start will be acceptable. • Can I complete my fieldwork and internship at the same site? • Yes, however responsibilities must change with an internship and a plan must be presented • Can I complete my fieldwork or internship where I currently work? • In very some cases, approval needed by Professor Peddie
