  1. Cranwell Ladies Help for Heroes Calendar 2011 FS Linda Hughes, pictured below, and 15 ladies from Cranwell Village recently put together a 2011 Calendar in support of Help for Heroes. All the ladies have connections with the forces in one way or another. FS Linda Hughes is an Instructor on IMLC at ACS and although she is stationed at RAF Halton she has lived in Cranwell Village for nearly 23 years. Her friend Jean Collishaw’s son is in the Army and recently returned from Afghanistan; Pat Bareham, co-founder of the calendar, is exRAF and is currently serving as MPGS at RAF Waddington and her husband is serving with 2503 RAF Regt Aux Sqn. Initially the idea was to produce a calendar in the same vain as the original WI Calendar Girls. After a lot of discussion it was decided to take a different approach and as this year is the 70th Anniversary of the Battle of Britain a 40s style theme seemed appropriate. Each month has references to historic events and the photos (taken by Sleaford freelance photographer John Forman) were taken at East Kirkby Aviation heritage Centre. Tastefuly done, some images just hint and tease, with the women pictured adjusting a stocking or flashing a calf. Serco at RAF Cranwell have produced the calendars at a cost of only £1 for the first 500 and £2 for further copies (the first 500 have nearly all been sold!). The price of the calendar is £4.99 and all proceeds (once payment for production has been deducted) will be going straight to the charity. The launch of the calendar was held at the Cranwell Parish Social Club on the 18 Sep and just under £500 was raised that evening. The ladies are hoping to raise £2000 but if the calendar proves popular who knows how much they will finally raise! Anyone interested in supporting their cause can get in contact directly with Linda at IMLC, ACS, RAF Halton, 01296 656156, LINDAHUGHES755@halton.raf.mod.uk or via email to cranwellladies@hotmail.com or the can write to Cranwell Ladies, c/o Cranwell Village Post Office, Cranwell, Sleaford, Lincs.
