  2. What are ocean basins? “Geologic depressions in the earth covered by sea water.” Courtesy of www.YahooAnswers.com “Similar forces to erosion and weathering, storm waters can erode cliffs under water, and cause deep trenches in the ocean.” Courtesy of BC Science 8 Textbook

  3. Oceans • 5 Oceans in the world, Indian, Pacific,Southern , Arctic, Atlantic.

  4. Origin of sea water • Earth was believed to be a molten ball until it cooled down. • Water from inside the volcanoes rose up as water vapour • Then fell according to the water cycle. • Then tons of water fell into the ground and then began to pool up at the deepest parts of the earth. • Thus creating ocean basins

  5. Continental margins • They are under water edges that lie alone the edge of continents • The continental slope is a steep drop into the depths of the ocean. • From the continent to the end of the continental slop

  6. Plates • Continental plates are the plates in the continents • Oceanic plates are uder the ocean floor • If two plates are pulled apart a mid ocean ridge forms • If they collide then it equals to a volcano
