Challenges faced by the world’s automakers

  • Survival under the current financial crisis and worldwide recession (problem for Japan: the high yen)

  • Competition in the markets of newly-emerging countries

  • Coping with environmental issues

The structure of the global economy is poised to undergo radical changes.

Competition in the markets of newly-developing countries: low-cost cars

The global entry car strategy

Launch low-cost cars in over 150 countries beginning in 2010

  ・Platform exclusively for Segment A

・Status cars with modern styling and a roomy interior

  ・3 types of models

Status of progress of electric vehicles

  • Production will begin at the Oppama Plant in the fall of 2010; production capacity is planned to be expanded from an initial 50,000 units/year

  • Production in other countries is also being considered

  • Batteries will be produced at AESC in Zama

  • Motors will be produced at the Yokohama Plant

  • Inverters will initially be produced in Zama

Automotive Energy Supply Corporation (AESC)

  • AESC: a joint-venture of Nissan (51%) and NEC group (49%).

  • AESC enables to:

    • develop optimized battery for electric powered vehicle from material selection to vehicle application.

    • provide assurance based on the deep understanding and experience of vehicle installations.
