  2. Standard Dimensions of Photographs • Photographs come in different sizes according to the camera you are using, and according to the printed photo paper. • Aspect Ratio is the relationship between the width (horizontal dimension) to the height (vertical Dimension). • The Aspect Ratio is written as 2 numbers separated by a semi colon.

  6. Standard Dimensions of Photographs • The size of the image itself results in the changes to the picture depending on the dimensions as mentioned in the aspect ratio. • The next slide shows some standard size dimensions of images used by computers, films, digital cameras, computer screens, and so on. • The slide after that shows how the Eiffel Tower photo will look as per each of these sizes.

  9. Standard Dimensions of Photographs • We can now crop a picture to remove what is not needed from the picture without having to change the image itself, we can also change its Aspect Ratio. • This is called Cropping, and it is removing unwanted areas from a photograph.

  10. Standard Dimensions of Photographs The photo to the left is the un-cropped photo. The photo to the right is the cropped photo. We can see that the view looks more grand, since the height of the photo is more, giving a feeling that the trees are very big, and the mountain in the distance is very high. Also, the sides of the photo have been cropped out, making it look more dense.

  11. Conclusion • Dimensions of photographs should be standard in order for photos to reflect the true caption. A lot of people edit the photo by adjusting the Aspect Ratio of a photo or by Cropping to improve the image shown. It is obvious that different dimensions will show a different image by exaggerating the height or the width of a photo.
