  1. Day 2, Wednesday, Jan 1: I got up and hiked the length of Wallace Island (Chiver Pt to Panther Pt). At 2pm I looked at the weather and it wasn’t getting any better (SE winds, gale force) so I had two options: stay put, or make a run for another harbour. I chose to make a beeline for Chemainus; I motored the whole way to save time, arriving 15 minutes after sunset. Sailed the rest of the way; had the wind astern so it made for a smooth and direct sail. Arrived at Conover Cove at 1630. Met by a group, four other boats in fact, and was invited over for New Years’ cocktails and appys. At 1230, January 1, 2003, we all went to bed after much wine and champange. Angus’ Boat Adventure Day 3, Thursday, Jan 2: A small break in the weather. The winds in Stuart Channel were 20-25 kts from the SE. I decided to make a run for Genoa Bay. The ‘star’ is where the hook to my mainsheet broke. So, in 4’ seas I brought in and secured the main boom - a wee bit of excitement. I motored to Maple Bay to get a replacement part. As luck would have it, the store is Maple Bay is “out of business”, so I motor the rest of the way to Genoa Bay. Motored through Captain Passage Day 1, Tuesday, Dec 31: Started 0815. The plan: go to Conover Cove on Wallace Island. On the way to Genoa Bay, a quick stop to check out the public jetty at Burgoyne Bay, and the jetty at Musgrave Landing. Day 4, Friday, Jan 3: Left Genoa Bay and and sailed (south of Patey Rock) to Arbutus Island (Colburne Passage) to motor back to Tsehum Harbour. On the way I stopped at the public jetty on Piers Island. Not much to see. Spent the nigh in Genoa Bay; a nice little place, but all closed up in the winter. Also, not protected from SE winds, which were howling at about 45-55 kt on Thursday night.
