  2. Standard: • The school establishes and communicates a shared purpose and direction for improving the performance of students and effectiveness of the school.

  3. Vision Statement: • We have high expectations for students. We use research based strategies during instruction in math, reading, writing, social studies, science, physical education, and the arts We strive to meet the needs of all our students so that no child will be left behind.

  4. Mission Statement: • “Bee all you can Bee”

  5. 1.1 Establishes a vision for the school in collaboration with its stakeholders • Pembroke Elementary School , Board of Education, and the community have forged a partnership which demands quality programming, instructional techniques, and fiscal management, while building trust and understanding. • Parent Teachers Association meets regularly to determine the needs of the school.

  6. 1.1 Continued • University of North Carolina at Pembroke partners with our school to provide mentors to our students. • McDonalds provides a reading incentive program. • Pizza Hut sponsors an additional reading program. • Kiwanis Club distributes books to the students yearly and sponsors the Terrific Kids Program. • The Robeson County Public Library exposes students to a variety of books, computers, and educational programs.

  7. 1.2 Communicates the vision and purpose to build stakeholders understanding and support • Pembroke Elementary School systematically maintains and uses information that describes the school, its students, and their performances which includes: • Surveys • Assessments to monitor growth • Interim reports • Websites

  8. 1.2 continued • Newsletters • Phone calls • Parent nights • Notes • Handbooks • Disaggregated data • And benchmarks are very instrumental in communicating our vision and purpose to stakeholders.

  9. 1.3 Identifies goals to advance the vision • Goals guide the teaching and learning process by: • Evaluation of the staff • Observations of teachers, teacher assistants, custodial staff, administrative assistants, culinary staff, bus drivers and students. • Lesson plans are analyzed via e-mail and classroom visits • Assessment and survey results are analyzed to determine goals and objectives

  10. 1.4 Develops and continuously maintains a profile of the school, its students, and the community • Pembroke Elementary School: • Evaluates and analyzes various types of data to ensure the vision and purpose of the school remain current • Provides a curriculum that communicates high expectations for all students through the implementation of best practices • Uses North Carolina Standard Course of Study to develop lesson plans to meet the needs of all students • Staff development to improve performance • The School Improvement Plan is updated yearly • Data results assessed to analyze school effectiveness

  11. 1.5 Ensures that the school’s vision and purpose guide the teaching and learning process. • Teaching and the learning process are guided through: • In-service projects and workshops • Local, state and national conferences • Regular Faculty meetings • Workshops with PSRC’s testing coordinator • Test scores to show growth and areas needing improvement • Star Reading, Accelerated Reading, Star Math • Waterford and Successmaker • Test Magic and Benchmark teaming

  12. 1.6 Reviews its vision and purpose systematically and revises them when appropriate • The School Improvement Team revisits the vision and purpose yearly and revises it when ever it deems necessary. The entire school votes on any changes in the SIT plan.

  13. After reviewing the indicators for Standard 1 our team came to the consensus that Pembroke Elementary School is Highly Functional in all area.
