  1. A Night at the Oscars

  2. What is This? • A Night at the Oscars is a chance for you to show off what you have learned about Business Leadership this term and to learn more about companies operating in the real world. • Furthermore, this is an opportunity to further develop your group participation and presentation skills.

  3. How Does it Work? • There are 5 Business Leadership Oscars up for grabs at this year’s awards. As a team, your task is to nominate a company that you think has a great shot at winning an award. • You will pick 5 different companies, one for each category, and will then build a presentation that will sway voters to vote for your nominee.

  4. Nomination Categories • As mentioned, there are 5 categories that you need to fill. A description of each follows…

  5. 1. Social Responsibility • This company is nominated because it has shown outstanding concern for its stakeholders. It is willing to go an extra step to meet the needs of its community and potentially the entire world.

  6. 2. Green & Clean • This category is for companies that have gone above and beyond for the environment. They are committed to renewable resources and creating a sustainable world.

  7. 3. Strategic Management • Most companies are somewhat strategic but this nominee outdoes the rest. It has a strategy that provides an awesome competitive advantage that would be difficult to match.

  8. 4. Quality Leadership • This nominee is a company that is led by top-quality managers. They have the knowledge, charisma, or other characteristics that set them apart from the typical business leader.

  9. 5. Best To Work For • Employees at this company aren’t likely to be looking for new jobs any time soon. They are treated like royalty with the best perks and benefits anyone could ask for.

  10. Procedure • Nominations are on a first-come first-serve basis and no team can use a single company twice. • Once you have selected your nominees you can begin your research and your presentation. • You will have a total of 20 minutes to present all 5 of your nominees. • After all presentations are complete the class will vote for each category.

  11. Evaluation • The Oscars are worth 10% of your final mark in this class. • Your team will be evaluated as per the evaluation provided online. The total team mark will then be divided amongst the members (by the team) according to each member’s individual contributions.

  12. A Night at the Oscars • A Night at the Oscars will be held on Thursday, Jan 20 and Friday, January 21. • Award-winners will be awarded bonus marks for capturing an award. • This will be your last assignment for the Business Leadership course. Enjoy it and take this opportunity to show what you have learned during the semester!
