  13. Notes • In an English weather forecast, the weatherman always uses some broad and general terms rather than exact words to predict weather in the future. Write down all the degrees in both Centigrade (C) and Fahrenheit (F). • The differences between “C” and “F” • Temperature can be measured in degrees Centigrade or degrees Fahrenheit. Usually we use “℃” to stand for Centigrade or Celsius. The abbreviation for Fahrenheit is “F”. The sign for degrees is “°”. Centigrade or Celsius is commonly used in China, while Fahrenheit is widely used in English speaking countries. 广东职业技术学院

  19. Notes • 1. Of the five statements, the last three may sound a bit challenging. In fact, the scale at the beginning has already offered the answers to the first two. Therefore, if you can get the correct answers for the last three, you've done a good job. • 2. Since the measurements in both Centigrade and Fahrenheit are being used by people in different areas, the numbers in the first three statements are useful in daily life (0°C=32°F; 100°C=212° F; 37°C=98.6°F ). Notice that zero and decimal numbers are regarded as plural, for example, zero degrees;0.5 degrees. • 4. Weather forecast is given several times a day on TV and on the radio. The man who predicts weather conditions is called the weatherman. In most English speaking countries, the weatherman usually speaks with a personal and friendly tone. At six o’clock the temperature was 8 degrees, the humidity 46 percent. Tomorrow’s forecast is not very promising. We can expect cloudy, cold, windy weather. The temperature will drop to 5 degrees in the morning. It’ll get warmer in the afternoon with a high temperature of 10 degrees.   29. Notes • 1. In note-taking, you can always create some symbols of your own to speed up the writing. For instance, the symbol "↑" may stand for "upper" while " ↓" for "lower". They say hot weather may cause more health problems, such as heat stroke. It also may increase flooding and air pollution.
