  1. INDESTRUCTIBLE?Luke 21:5-36 Pastor Wayne Wilson July 13, 2013

  2. INDESTRUCTIBLE?Luke 21:5-36 Then, as some spoke of the temple, how it was adorned with beautiful stones and donations, He said, “These things which you see—the days will come in which not one stone shall be left upon another that shall not be thrown down.” So they asked Him, saying, “Teacher, but when will these things be? And what sign will there be when these things are about to take place?”

  3. INDESTRUCTIBLE?Luke 21:5-36 And He said: “Take heed that you not be deceived. For many will come in My name, saying, ‘I am He,’ and, ‘The time has drawn near.’ Therefore do not go after them. But when you hear of wars and commotions, do not be terrified; for these things must come to pass first, but the end will not come immediately.”

  4. INDESTRUCTIBLE?Luke 21:5-36 Then He said to them, “Nation will rise against nation, and kingdom against kingdom. And there will be great earthquakes in various places, and famines and pestilences; and there will be fearful sights and great signs from heaven. But before all these things, they will lay their hands on you and persecute you, delivering you up to the synagogues and prisons. You will be brought before kings and rulers for My name’s sake.

  5. INDESTRUCTIBLE?Luke 21:5-36 But it will turn out for you as an occasion for testimony. Therefore settle it in your hearts not to meditate beforehand on what you will answer; for I will give you a mouth and wisdom which all your adversaries will not be able to contradict or resist. You will be betrayed even by parents and brothers, relatives and friends; and they will put some of you to death.

  6. INDESTRUCTIBLE?Luke 21:5-36 And you will be hated by all for My name’s sake. But not a hair of your head shall be lost. By your patience possess your souls. “But when you see Jerusalem surrounded by armies, then know that its desolation is near. Then let those who are in Judea flee to the mountains, let those who are in the midst of her depart, and let not those who are in the country enter her.

  7. INDESTRUCTIBLE?Luke 21:5-36 For these are the days of vengeance, that all things which are written may be fulfilled. But woe to those who are pregnant and to those who are nursing babies in those days! For there will be great distress in the land and wrath upon this people. And they will fall by the edge of the sword, and be led away captive into all nations. And Jerusalem will be trampled by Gentiles until the times of the Gentiles are fulfilled.

  8. INDESTRUCTIBLE?Luke 21:5-36 “And there will be signs in the sun, in the moon, and in the stars; and on the earth distress of nations, with perplexity, the sea and the waves roaring; men’s hearts failing them from fear and the expectation of those things which are coming on the earth, for the powers of the heavens will be shaken. Then they will see the Son of Man coming in a cloud with power and great glory. Now when these things begin to happen, look up and lift up your heads, because your redemption draws near.”

  9. INDESTRUCTIBLE?Luke 21:5-36 Then He spoke to them a parable: “Look at the fig tree, and all the trees. When they are already budding, you see and know for yourselves that summer is now near. So you also, when you see these things happening, know that the kingdom of God is near. Assuredly, I say to you, this generation will by no means pass away till all things take place. Heaven and earth will pass away, but My words will by no means pass away.

  10. INDESTRUCTIBLE?Luke 21:5-36 “But take heed to yourselves, lest your hearts be weighed down with carousing, drunkenness, and cares of this life, and that Day come on you unexpectedly. For it will come as a snare on all those who dwell on the face of the whole earth. Watch therefore, and pray always that you may [have strength to] escape all these things that will come to pass, and to stand before the Son of Man.”

  17. INDESTRUCTIBLE?Luke 21:23-24 “But woe to those who are pregnant and to those who are nursing babies in those days! For there will be great distress in the land and wrath upon this people. And they will fall by the edge of the sword, and be led away captive into all nations.”

  18. INDESTRUCTIBLE?Luke 21:24b “And Jerusalem will be trampled by the Gentiles until the times of the Gentiles are fulfilled.”

  19. INDESTRUCTIBLE?Luke 21:33 “Heaven and earth will pass away.”

  20. INDESTRUCTIBLE? Psalm 102:25-27 “Of old You (i.e. God) laid the foundation of the earth, and the heavens are the work of your hands. They will perish, but You will endure; yes, they will grow old like a garment; like a cloak You will change them, andthey will be changed. But You are the same, and Your years will have no end.”

  21. INDESTRUCTIBLE? 2 Peter 3:10 “But the day of the Lord will come as a thief in the night, in which the heavens will pass away with a great noise, and the elements will melt with fervent heat; both the earth and the works that are in it will be burned up.”

  22. INDESTRUCTIBLE? Revelation 21:1 “Now I saw a new heaven and a new earth, for the first heaven and the first earth had passed away.”

  23. INDESTRUCTIBLE? Luke 21:33b “But My words will by no means pass away.”

  24. INDESTRUCTIBLE? Luke 21:27 “Then they will see the Son of Man coming in a cloud with power and great glory.”

  25. INDESTRUCTIBLE? Acts 1:9-11 “Now when He (i.e. Jesus) had spoken these things, while they watched, He was taken up, and a cloud received Him out of their sight. And while they looked steadfastly toward Heaven as He went up, behold, two men stood by them in white apparel, who also said, ‘Men of Galilee, why do you stand gazing up into heaven? This same Jesus, who was taken up from you into Heaven, will come in like manner as you saw Him go into Heaven.”

  26. Contrasts Between Jesus First Coming and Second Coming: • The first time Jesus came as a lamb. The second time Jesus will come as a lion. • The first time Jesus came as the Savior. The second time Jesus will come as the Sovereign. • The first time Jesus came in weakness. The second time Jesus will come in power. • The first time Jesus came to suffer. The second time Jesus will come to rule.

  27. Contrasts Between Jesus First Coming and Second Coming: • The first time Jesus came in obscurity. The second time Jesus will come in glory. • The first time Jesus came as a representative of God’s love and grace. The second time Jesus will come as a representative of God’s righteousness and justice.

  28. INDESTRUCTIBLE? Luke 21:34-35 “But take heed to yourselves, lest your hearts be weighed down with carousing, drunkenness and cares of this life, and that Day come on you unexpectedly for it will come as a snare on all those who dwell on the face of the whole earth.”

  29. How should we live in light of the Return of Christ? • We need to be spiritually agile. • We need to be on guard against the excessive pursuit of earthly pleasure. • We need to be on guard against worrying about life.

  30. INDESTRUCTIBLE? Luke 17:28-33 “Likewise, as it was also in the days of Lot: They ate, they drank, they bought, they sold, they planted, they built; but on the day that Lot went out of Sodom it rained fire and brimstone from heaven and destroyed them all. Even so will it be in the day when the Son of Man is revealed.

  31. INDESTRUCTIBLE?Luke 17:28-33 In that day, he who is on the housetop, and his goods are in the house, let him not come to take them away. And likewise the one who is in the field, let him not turn back. Remember Lot’s wife. Whoever seeks to save his life will lose it, and whoever loses his life will preserve it.”

  32. INDESTRUCTIBLE? Luke 21:38 “Watch therefore, and pray always that you may [have strength to] escape all these things that will come to pass, and to stand before the Son of Man.”

  33. INDESTRUCTIBLE?How Do We Change? Stay alert and be people of fervent prayer
