    2. CRANKSHAFT AND CAMSHAFT POSITION SENSORS Purpose and Function The crankshaft position sensor is primarily responsible for the following. Engine speed (RPM). Piston position for ignition timing control. Misfire detection.

    3. MAGNETIC POSITION SENSOR Parts and Operation Some characteristics of a magnetic sensor include: Two-wire sensors. Sensors mounted near a gear or notched wheel. Sensors where the faster the toothed wheel moves past the sensor, the higher the frequency of the output signal. Magnetic position sensors generate a higher voltage signal with increased engine speed.

    10. 3UR-FE Crankshaft Position Sensor Timing rotor located near the flywheel • An MRE type sensor protrudes through the left rear side of the engine block to align with the timing rotor. • Timing rotor features 34 teeth with 2 teeth missing. Spacing is at 10ş intervals (36 x 10ş = 360ş). The missing teeth signal TDC. Service Point: When replacing the starter, ensure that its plastic spacer does not come into contact with the crankshaft position sensor because this may damage the sensor.• An MRE type sensor protrudes through the left rear side of the engine block to align with the timing rotor. • Timing rotor features 34 teeth with 2 teeth missing.
