  3. Ascertain • With a bit of research, the student ascertained that some plants can live for weeks without water. • Right

  4. Faculty • Benjamin had a faculty for making friends easily. • Right

  5. Abstruse • Everyone else in the class understood geometry easily, but John found the subject abstrusely. • Wrong • Correct form: abstruse

  6. Ruminate • John decided to ruminate over which car he should purchase. • Right

  7. Surmise • After speaking to only one of the students, the teacher was able to surmisedwhat had caused the fight. • Wrong • Correct form: surmise

  8. Acumen • Because of his mathematical acuminity, Larry was able to figure out in minutes problems that took other students hours. • Wrong • Correct form: acumen
