  2. Why is this important? This is an opportunity for you to gain information that will help you make a decision that can affect the rest of your life. This is your first impression of education, and education’s first impression of you.

  3. Two Major Goals for School-University Partnerships • Provide professional development opportunities for pre-service teachers • Support learning and teaching in the public schools

  4. Field Experiences An integral part of the teacher education program. The primary focus of schools and teachers – K-12 student learning. UTSA pre-service teachers are special guestsin the schools.

  5. Be Responsible • It is important to portray, a responsible and professional attitude. • Use the information in the following slides as a guide.

  6. Attendance • Have good attendance (Communicate with your mentor teacher if you do have to be absent. • Be on time!!!!

  7. Research your School and District • Go to the district/school website • Principal • Teacher/team • Location • Demographics • Other information

  8. School Rules Follow policies and procedures of the school and the district.

  9. Be Professional Consider this a semester long interview.

  10. Appropriate Dress No unconventional piercing or hair color, hide your tattoos. Business Casual

  11. Wear your Picture ID

  12. Cell Phones

  13. Relationships Develop relationship with your mentor teacher and the students.

  14. Confidentiality During the course of any field placement you will learn confidential information about students. You will need to be sure not to use first and last names of students or teachers when discussing scenarios in your classes.

  15. Getting the Best Experience • Take advantage of the opportunity to learn from mentor teachers. • Be actively involved in the classroom and school – not just an observer. • Go above and beyond the minimum expectations.

  16. Tutoring • Mentoring • Student activities • Parent involvement activities • Faculty meetings • Grade-level/departmental meetings • Staff development sessions Look for Opportunities
