  7. U.S. Enters WWII • Began in 1939 • Germany, Japan and Italy vs. UK, France and USSR • U.S. officially enters in 1941 with the bombing of Pearl Harbor • Had been giving supplies to Allies • Over 400,000 Americans died and over 600,000 were wounded • Ends in 1945

  8. Draft • Instituted in 1940 • All men between the ages of 21 and 35 were required to register for draft • Names were pulled; if selected, had to serve in the military for a year • When U.S. entered WWII, age lowered to 18 • Many men signed up voluntarily in order to support the war effort
