    1. 25/08/2012 IEEE Canadian Project Report 1 "Electric Motors" to Increase Kids Interest towards ECE Carreers R-7 – Report: May 2004

    2. 25/08/2012 IEEE Canadian Project Report 2 Introduction Was an IEEE Canada 2003 Project Make kids aware of “electricity” and be later possibly interested ECE careers Inform them about of IEEE, IEEE Canada and IEEE local sections

    3. 25/08/2012 IEEE Canadian Project Report 3 ECC Participating Sections: Saint-Maurice Newfoundland New-Brunswick (Science East mid-May) Quebec

    4. 25/08/2012 IEEE Canadian Project Report 4 Material ordered Science Fair model 10-135, 10 $ 1400 $ received, 140 kits ordered Kits split among participating sections Sections purchased, sand paper, AA batteries separately

    5. 25/08/2012 IEEE Canadian Project Report 5 Electrical Motor Kit:

    6. 25/08/2012 IEEE Canadian Project Report 6 Materials prepared locally Power point to explain what to do, step by step Information sheet with: how motors work, experiments to do at home and … IEEE Logos!

    7. 25/08/2012 IEEE Canadian Project Report 7 Example of instructions:

    8. 25/08/2012 IEEE Canadian Project Report 8 Demo at St Teresa’s/École Ste-Thérčse in St. John’s School – March 26th, 2004

    9. 25/08/2012 IEEE Canadian Project Report 9 Demo at Cśur Vaillant School – March 25th, 2004 25 kids, 5th grade school,25 kits. 20 kits were functional after 2h˝! 5 unworking kits were fixed « of-line » and returned to school. Kids kept their motor. ECE U. Laval Dept. Helped!

    10. 25/08/2012 IEEE Canadian Project Report 10 Demo at Cśur Vaillant School – March 25th, 2004

    11. 25/08/2012 IEEE Canadian Project Report 11 Demo at Cśur Vaillant School – March 25th, 2004

    12. 25/08/2012 IEEE Canadian Project Report 12 Conclusions Kids response was rather enthusiastic! Kits need to be prepared (ex: have rotors ready) Problems come often from poor contacts: not well removed varnish on wires, misalignment. Newspaper article in preparation 2005: we still have a few kits, we will « demo» them at High School.

    13. 25/08/2012 IEEE Canadian Project Report 13 Next Step Due to the success of this event, we suggest IEEE sections to hold it regularly!
