  1. Acts 19-23

  2. Acts 19:11-12 Special Miracles! • Similar miracles to those wrought through Paul have occurred in this dispensation: • On that memorable day July 22, 1839, at Montrose, Iowa, for instance, when the Prophet healed the sick in great numbers, he took a red silk handkerchief from his pocket, gave it to Wilford Woodruff, and told him to go and use it in the healing of two children of a non-member of the Church. Elder Woodruff, as instructed, used the handkerchief in wiping the faces of the sick children and they were healed (J. Fielding Smith, Essentials in Church History, 270-71).

  3. “Healing comes by the power of faith; there is no healing virtue or power in any item of clothing or other object, whether owned by Paul or Jesus or anyone. But rites and objects may be used to help increase faith. “When a man works by faith,” the Prophet said, “he works by mental exertion instead of physical force” (Lectures on Faith, 61).

  4. Acts 19:13-18 7 Sons of Sceva And the evil spirits answered and said, Jesus I know, and Paul I know; but who are ye? A darn good question! • Acts 19:19 Ephesus was a center for magical incantations (NIV). • Acts 19:24-41 The temple of the great goddess Diana!

  5. “It was reckoned one of the wonders of the world. It was built about 550 B.C. of pure white marble. It was burned down by a fanatic and later rebuilt with more splendor than before. It was 425 feet long, by 220 broad, and the columns, 127 in number, were sixty feet in height. It was what the Bank of England is in the modern world. Its very sight in now a matter of uncertainty. It was in the form of a many-breasted female (emblematic of the manifold ministrations of Nature to man), terminating in a shapeless block. It was believed that it fell from heaven. It was indeed an idol. So often religious zeal becomes the hypocritical cloak of self-interest!

  6. Acts 19:32 Typical mob behavior, and the more part knew not wherefore they were come together! • Acts 20:7-12 And you thought High Council speakers spoke for a long time! The raising of Eutychus from death!

  7. Acts 20:36-38 Transfers are difficult! • Acts 21:9 “The same man had four daughters, virgins, which did prophecy” (Alma 32:23). • Men are appointed to hold rule in the home and church, women are not one whit behind them in spiritual endowments. They prophesy, receive visions, entertain angels, enjoy the gifts of the spirit, and qualify with their husbands for full exaltation in the highest heaven (DNTC 2:18).

  8. Acts 21:13 D&C 19:2 “Total submission” • Acts 23:3 Thou “whited wall” = hypocrite! • Acts 23:11 God does not leave us alone! Why prison? To testify before Caesar, be acquitted and legitimize Christianity!
