  2. Core Competency 1 Identify as a professional social worker and conduct oneself accordingly::

  3. Practice Behavior 1.1 Advocate for client access to the services of social work. I have had several clients in need of Housing. I have contacted the housing authority in Lumberton, Maxton, and Pembroke and I have transported clients to these places to enlist.

  4. Practice Behavior 1.2 Practice personal reflection and self-correction to assure continual professional development I am always referring back to the policy manual and my social work books to make sure I am following procedures.

  5. Practice Behavior 1.3 Attend to professional roles and boundaries. As soon as I meet with clients I inform them that I will direct them to the services that they need but it is left up to them whether they follow through.

  6. Practice Behavior 1.4 Demonstrate professional demeanor in behavior, appearance, and communication. I think that I express when I talk to clients or even co-workers that I can handle whatever job I have been given. I call clients back in a timely manner and when I say I am on my way to pick them up, I am on time.

  7. Practice Behavior 1.5 Engage in career-long learning. I am always asking questions about the task that have been given to me and I am excited about going to different trainings to further my education.

  8. Practice Behavior 1.6 Use supervision and consultation. I am always in Mrs. Kay’s office asking questions and getting her opinion on things to make sure that I am doing them right. When we are in meetings I am always taking notes.

  10. Core Competency 2 Apply social work ethical principles to guide professional practice.

  11. Practice Behavior 2.1 Recognize and manage personal values in a way that allows professional values to guide practice. My personal value is to always treat people with kindness and with the up most respect and in this type of environment I meet diverse people all the time so this helps guide my professional values.

  12. Practice Behavior 2.2 Make ethical decisions by applying standards of the National Association of Social Workers Code of Ethics and, as applicable, of the International Association of Schools of Social Work Ethics in Social Work, Statement of Principles. I do not have respect of person and I always make sure to enforce confidentiality.

  13. Practice Behavior 2.3 Tolerate ambiguity in resolving ethical conflicts. I have not a client yet that has shown this type of behavior but if this ever happen I would address that Healthy Start will not tolerate this type of behavior and if it continues than services will be terminated.

  14. Practice Behavior 2.4 Apply strategies of ethical reasoning to arrive at principled decisions. I havn’t had a chance to demonstrate this Practice behavior yet.
