  4. Effective career learning… • Starts early • Depends on a planned and progressive programme • Engages and inspires all learners • Has a clear vision • Involves partners – subject teachers, employers, parents • Has a sound evidence based

  5. Funding through Welsh spoke • Trial for a post graduate course based on the module with two taught days. • 24 participants – 18 careers advisers & 6 teachers from Wales and South West • Assessment based on portfolios • Evaluation by Richard Watermeyer – University of Cardiff

Student Objectives • How to inspire students to commit to STEM subjects longer term • Better informed – breadth, LMI, resources • More confident with departments within school • Increase motivation in STEM by showing real job opportunities • Promote for all abilities - not just high flyers • How to support better links with industry

  8. A Learners Perspective Background And Reasons For Taking The Module The Dorcan Academy • 11-16 school • 17.7% FSM • 53% 5 A-C including English & Maths (National Average is 57%) • Ofsted inspection in November

  9. The Module • Structure: Independent in-depth learning • Flexibility to fit work load • Encourages analysis and self reflection of practice • Allows colleagues to tailor and apply learning to their individual work situations
