  3. UC Davis License Commitment • Initial 80 hour CTI operation and maintenance course ($15,000 per person) • Re-training every 3 years at CTI • Anticipate creating RHB endorsed internal training UC Davis EH&S

  4. Operator Re-training Due Spring 2007 • RSC approved letter (dated 4/27/07) to the RHB changing the training commitment to as follows: All new operators will be sent to the Siemens (formerly CTI) Eclipse System Operation’s class. Every three years, existing operators will have the following options: Re-taking the Siemens Operations class, or Pass the Siemens on-line recertification exam • One operator passed the Siemens on-line recertification exam UC Davis EH&S

  5. RHB and Letter • Letter was dropped of at RHB on April 30, 2007 • Chief of Licensing Section said letter not required to change an aspect of training as long as RSC feels that the change does not “decrease the effectiveness of Radiation Safety Program” • Cited NUREG 1556 V11 which provides flexibility to Type A Broad Scope licenses • This flexibility is also provided in Condition #53 of the UC Davis broadscope radioactive material license.   6. Radiation Safety Committee • Special RSC meeting held May 14, 2007 • RSC approved change to training proposed in the RHB letter • RSC approved the internal cyclotron operator training program on July 18, 2007 UC Davis EH&S

  7. Cyclotron Operator Training Program Initial certification of Cyclotron Operators: 1. Siemens course, Introduction to Eclipse Systems; or 2. UC Davis Center for Molecular and Genomic Imaging (UCD CMGI) course, Cyclotron Operation at CMGI. UC Davis EH&S

  8. Cyclotron Operator Training Program • Recertification of Cyclotron Operators every three years. Any of the following acceptable: 1. Siemens course, Cyclotron Operator Training; 2. Siemens course, Introduction to Eclipse Systems; 3. Siemens course, Advanced Eclipse Systems; 4. Siemens online exam; 5. UCD CMGI course, Cyclotron Operation at CMGI; or 6. UCD CMGI exam.   9. Cyclotron Operator Training • Recertification of instructor every three years. Any of the following is acceptable: 1. Siemens course, Cyclotron Operator Training; 2. Siemens course, Introduction to Eclipse Systems; 3. Siemens course, Advanced Eclipse Systems; or 4. Siemens online exam. UC Davis EH&S

  10. Operator Training Course • Classroom training • Hands-on training • Examination • 40 question written exam • Practical exam (5 procedures) • Documentation • Sign-off sheet • Certified by Facility Director/Manager and RSO UC Davis EH&S

  11. Lessons Learned • Don’t wait until the last minute • Put internal training program in license application • UC San Francisco • UCLA recommended to do this for new cyclotron UC Davis EH&S
