3. Introduction • Washoe County has various non- profit and community organizations available for families; however, there are not enough services to help women. By proposing this center, we hope to help further educate women and encourage personal development. • Models for our idea: • Jewell McFarland Lewis-Fresh Start Women’s Resource Center (http://www.wehelpwomen.com/) • Washoe County Leadership Academy

4. Fundraising • Here are some ideas for raising money: • Raise County Taxes! (Just kidding) • Create joint fundraising events with other organizations • Accept donations from the community and private businesses • Write grants/ proposals and submit to State and Federal Agencies

Guidelines • Our program guidelines: • Select 5 to 10 women per session • Have 4 sessions ranging from 2 ½ to 4 hours • Provide information about community resources and agencies (The idea is not to take business away from other entities but create awareness) • Collect feedback from participants and community • Being easily accessible for people with limited transportation • Acting as a “missing puzzle piece” for services not rendered in the community • Provide alternative ideas to traditional ways of thinking

6. Selection Process • There are various entities through which we can locate candidates for the center: • Churches • Non- Profit Organizations • Schools • Family Resource Centers • Support Groups • Businesses • Libraries

8. Night 1(continued) • During Night 1, the title of this session is “Introductions”. In our session, we hope to: • Meet our participants • Explain the purpose of these sessions • Interacting between participants • Meet with the Family Resource Specialist/ librarian • Tour the library and learn about services they provide • Fill out feedback surveys

Night 2 • Location: • Downing Counseling ClinicUniversity of Nevada, Reno / MS 281Counseling & Educational Psychology (CEP)College of Education, Room 3007 Reno, NV 89557-0213(775) 784-1596 • Mission Statement: The Downing Counseling Clinic is dedicated to providing individual, couples, family, child and group counseling services for the community and UCCSN (UNR, WNCC, TMCC) students. • Parking: Free to center participants(Cost of parking is $1 per person)

10. Night 2(continued) • Night 2 will focus on the Downing Counseling Clinic at the University of Nevada, Reno. The mobile center’s participants hope to: • Meet with the director of the Downing Clinic • History of the clinic • Receive a tour of the facility • Receive one free counseling session with student counselor. • Fill out feedback surveys

11. Night 3 • Location: • Renown Health • 1500 E Second Street • Suite 403 • (775) 982-7448 • Meeting Location: • Women’s Health Department • Parking: Free • Purpose statement: Make a genuine difference in the many lives we touch by optimizing our patient’s healthcare experience.

Night 3(continued) • Half way through the program, night 3 will spotlight on Renown Health and their various services: • Take a tour of the New Tahoe Tower • Learn about specific Renown programs: • Behavioral Health • Women and Children Services • Women’s Heart Program • For participants, free of cost, we are offering to pay for the Women’s Heart Program, which offers: • Lipid panel • Blood work • Fill out a risk survey and go over results with a registered nurse.

Night 4(continued) • After attending all our sessions we would like to “reward” our participants by giving them a memorable experience: • Free hairstyle/ or manicure from professional stylist • Certificate of Completion • Goodie bag consisting of: • Pictures • Beauty products • Information from attended sessions

16. Washoe County Participation • To make this project a success, several departments under Washoe County are needed: • Management Services • Since part of their department provides grants, this would a great opportunity to obtain funding • Social Services • Volunteers could provide childcare • Some of the volunteers as well as families in the system could be participants in sessions • Family Judicial Court • Listening to the judges, I think this goes along with their goal to help re-habilitate families and individuals in the system

Additional Ideas • Other Ideas consist of: • Providing daycare • Provide transportation • Having various series targeting issues directed by former participants • Having former attendees coordinate future sessions • Creating partnerships with various members of the community to dedicate their services and time
