The Demand for CDNs • Web page growth • Average Web Page Size Triples Since 2003 and 22 times since 1995. • Source: websiteoptimization.com • Example of www.yahoo.com in October of 2006 (from web.archive.org) • 11 requests • 23 KB • 3.3s for downloading in a 2Mbs home connection. • Y! Example for the same page now: • 35 requests • 211KB • 5.4s for downloading in a 2Mbs home connection. • Size is 10x bigger but the time has not been 10x slower • Need to bring the content closer to the users • Thanks to CDN and peering connections • Web pages size increase, TV and printed newspaper audience decrease. Is this a trend? Where it will lead us?
