  2. European 60GHz Indoor System Projects Kei Obara, Siemens

  3. In the past… 60 GHz project (1) – MEDIAN (Sep.1995 – Aug.1999) • MEDIAN is one of Framework projects funded by EC • System features of MEDIAN • 60GHz OFDM WLAN • ATM backbone • 150Mbps (UL + DL) total • Lens antenna with 8dBi • Cell radius of 4-6 m Kei Obara, Siemens

  4. 60 GHz project (1) – MEDIAN (Cont.) Results of MEDIAN in ETSI Only 1 document was submitted to ETSI BRAN (RES-10) to introduce the project. But there was no impact on the standardization activity. Kei Obara, Siemens

  5. On going.. 60 GHz project (2) – BROADWAY (Jan.2002 – Dec.2004) • BROADWAY is one of Framework projects funded by EC • System features • 5 & 60GHz dual frequency hybrid WLAN/WPAN • Total system throughput of 350Mbps or more • OFDM (HiperLAN2 extension) • TX power of 10dBm • Peer to peer communication for Ad hoc mode Kei Obara, Siemens

  6. Current movement within ETST BRAN • In September 2003 meeting, there was a presentation from a BROADWAY rep. to create a working group within ETSI BRAN to study the extension of existing WLANs and WPANs in the 60GHz band. (doc# : bran34d018) • In September BRAN meeting, IEEE802.15.mm-WIG has been introduced. • European frequency issues are under investigation for next BRAN meeting. • Following companies have already expressed their support for the creation of 60GHz working group in BRAN(Motorola, France Telecom, Intracom, Thomson Multimedia, CEA LETI, IMST, TNO) Kei Obara, Siemens
