  2. Background • Adapt was established in 1991. • With a primary aim to - ‘Improve the quality of life of disabled people.’

  3. Background • Adapt (North East) was established as Action by Differently Abled People in Tynedale.

  4. Developing Services • Adapt held public meetings to try to establish what services were required by disabled people. • The two main areas were access and transport – these defined the first areas of work for Adapt.

  5. Additional Projects • Advocacy • Befriending • Creative Arts

  6. Befriending Event at the West End Methodist Chapel

  7. Prudhoe Creative Arts Group

  8. Involving Volunteers • Working within A.D.A.P.T. in the last year have been over 90 volunteers. (2006) • Accredited Volunteer Training course was registered with Open College Network

  9. From 2007 • A.D.A.P.T. recognised the need to widen its geographical boundaries in light of proposed Local Government Re-organisation but more importantly to support disabled people.

  10. User Led Organisation • Adapt has always worked to the principles that underpin a User Led Organisation. • Currently provide a range of services • Facilitate Northumberland Disability and Deaf Network
