  1. How to Use Sunscreen Lotion on Your Face? Who does not want a face that is eternally youthful & beautiful? But as life and age take over, they eventually begin to reflect in your face. You need to take special care of your skin to protect its health & vitality. Using a natural sunscreen lotionis one of the simplest ways to guard your skin’s age and complexion. When you step out into the sun, your face is the most exposed part of the body. The scorching heat burns the skin, especially in the hot summer months. The blue light emitted by your mobile phones & laptop screens can also damage your skin cells. Applying sunscreen should be a part of your daily skincare regimen to shield yourself against sunburns & premature ageing. Harmful Effects of UV Rays: The rising environmental pollution has weakened the ozone layer that protects us against the sun’s UV rays. Heavy exposure to ultraviolet (UV) rays can lead to skin cancer. A sunscreen lotion is, therefore, not a choice but a necessity today. Apart from the heat & radiation outside, the artificial light at home and the workplace also harm the skin in many ways. This can result in various skin problems like hyperpigmentation, skin sagging & early ageing.

  2. The Sun Protection Factor (SPF): Sun Protection Factor or SPF refers to the sunscreen product’s ability to protect your skin against UV rays or specifically the UVB rays which cause skin cancer. If you spend more time in the sun (i.e. between 10 am to 4 pm), a higher SPF (50+) is the best sunscreen for the face. It offers very good protection as it can block up to 98% UVB rays. Otherwise, an SPF of at least 30 is recommended for daily use. Most dermatologists recommend a broad-spectrum sunscreen that protects your skin from both UVA & UVB rays. Applying Sunscreen Lotion on the Face: A sunscreen lotion is ineffective if it is not applied properly on the face. Applying sunscreen about 30 minutes before stepping out gives sufficient time for the skin to absorb it. First, apply small, thick dots directly upon the face and then massage them properly. It is recommended to apply chemical sunscreen before applying the moisturizer and mineral sunscreen or physical sunscreen after applying the moisturizer. For best results, apply the lotion daily and reapply it every 2 hours when you are out in the sun. Advantages of Using a Sunscreen Lotion: Using a good quality face sunscreen lotion with an adequate SPF should be a part of your personal hygiene & care. Choose a sunscreen lotion that is appropriate for your skin type. E.g. the Biotique Sunscreen for Oily Skin is suitable for normal to oily skin types and offers broad- spectrum protection. Prevention of Skin Cancer: Persistent exposure to UV radiation heightens the chance of developing skin cancer. Scientific studies have shown that regular use of sunscreen with SPF 15 can cut the risk of developing cell carcinoma by 40% and melanoma by 50%. Prevention of Premature Skin Aging: Constant sun exposure damages the skin resulting in wrinkles, freckles, dryness, sagging, etc. These problems expedite the skin’s ageing process. A sunscreen lotion arrests the ageing of the skin by preserving its collagen & elastin levels. Reduction of Hyperpigmentation: Daily exposure to UV rays can cause an uneven darkening of the skin, which becomes discolored over a period of time. Regular use of sunscreen lotions helps in maintaining skin tone. Prevention of Sun Burns: Severe sunburns and rashes can be very painful and spoil your beach vacation too. A broad-spectrum sunscreen can prevent sunburns if used every 2-3 hours when you are in the hot sun.

  3. Note: Dry skin gets dehydrated very fast as it is unable to retain moisture. So when you are outside, a moisturizer is not sufficient. The Biotique Sunscreen for Dry Skin is tailor-made to offer you the best protection. Conclusion Sunlight is a chief source of Vitamin D, which is essential for good bone health. But continuous & unprotected exposure to the hot sun can do more damage than good for your skin. Using a sunscreen face cream will work wonders for your skin in every possible way!
