  2. ETNITE European Transnational Network for ITS Training and Education the needs the design, development, operation and maintenance of ITS require new vocational skillsamong transport professionals

  3. ETNITE …the needs ITS consists of combination of technologies and methodologies in different disciplinary areas, including: - traffic management / planning - ICT ( electronics, location system, communication, networking,…) - knowledge necessary to carry out strategic and organizational management tasks, the definition of business models the evaluation of benefits in projects where extremely complex organizational chains of actors are present This scope and diversity presentsa significant educational and training challenge which ETNITE is addressing.

  4. ETNITE The vision The overall vision is to achieve a decisive breakthrough in the human resource potential available for ITS implementation in Europe. As a first step in this direction this proposal consists of creating a transnational multisector network. ITS EduNet was created in 2004 (ITSinEurope Congress)

ETNITE • The activities • establish the network and the organization • identify centres of excellence in Europe and their type of competence • define a common “knowledge data base” and how to distribute and maintain it • define the best way for sharing and exchanging expertise between centres and regions

ETNITE • …the activities • define knowledge needs and gaps for training and education of ITS in Europe • understand the existing experiences in USA and elsewhere in the world, establishing exchanges as appropriate • study how to optimize the training/education in ITS not only for students but also for employees, decision makers, public administrations

ETNITE • …the activities • indicate how to optimize curricula and implement an accreditation system for Europe-width ITS education • implement an outreach strategy in order to raise awareness of ITS • identify the tools needed for ITS training and education (investigating: eLearning, dLearning, usage of simulators, panels assessment, interactive courses based on the support of a back-office multimedia centre,...)

ETNITE • The objectives • good practices for training and education in ITS • demonstrate the effectiveness of the good practice guidelines by example • define a strategy for transition to operative planning and implementation of a stable organization for training and education of ITS in Europe : ITS EduNet • create a procedure for including new partners in joining the network
