Hunts • Web Treasure Hunt • Use the Insert URL tool for individuals or Web Safari in breakout rooms for groups and send them off to search for a list of informational items • Application Treasure Hunt • Similar to Web Treasure Hunt. Use the Appshare tool and hunt for bits of information withing an application…

  15. Open House • Use Breakout Rooms • Different topics/content for each room • Use your participants or bring in subject matter experts to talk/interact briefly on each topic. • Each room should have a unique look and feel.

  16. Learning Retention • Quiz Show • Participant Challenge • Survey Says! • Question the Answer • Concept Bingo

  17. Quiz Show • Prepare a list of questions with four possible answers, one of which is correct. • Promote contestant to Co-Presenter, use easier to harder questions, allow 3 audience polls • Use the Survey Tool (6.0 allows surveys to be prepared in advance) for polling audience. • Use a few questions per round to give others a chance to participate. • Could be turned into a “Who Wants to Be a Gazillionaire” type of game…

  18. The Sound Quiz Show Question 1 You are having a Centra event and a participant informs you that there is a sound delay problem. What is your response? a) check your network connection b) contact Julia at (phone number here) c) this is a known reality of Centra d) run the Centra Audio Wizard In 5 seconds, you must answer or request to poll your audience…

  19. Participant Challenge • Create a list of questions with more than one correct answer. • Divide group into 2 teams. • Ask a question, first person to raise their hand gets to answer, advise the team to use participant-to-participant chat for help with answers. • Go down the list of team members until they guess all answers to win the round or pass to other team.

  20. Survey Says! • I made this one up :) • Create list of surveyable questions. • Select contestant. • Show question using survey tool and let the audience participants answer. • Let the contestant guess the most popular answer. • Show survey results.

  21. Question the Answer • Imagine MAD Centra-ized version of Jeopardy!

  22. Concept Bingo • Via email, give every participant a different concept card (set up like Bingo cards). • The concepts on the cards should be key concepts covered in your Centra session. • As concepts are mentioned, participants check them off until they have 3 in a row - vertically, horizontally, or diagonally. • This is a great way to keep participants’ attention, kind of like You Said It!

  23. You Said It! • Q & A • You ask the questions, I try to provide the answer… • Use the secret word and you get a prize!

  24. Prize Door Yummy!

  25. It’s a Mad, Mad World As we take our courses online, it is more important than ever to build community and keep students engaged. Keep “interactivity” in mind as often as possible. This is true of Centra as well and when pre-planned, quite easy to do. Include games and sessions can be Motivating, Active, and Dynamic. Let’s get MAD!

  26. Mad World, cont. • RETA Tech Boot Camp icebreaker activity • Use of video/s to learn to download programs and use discussion board in WebCT • http://ali.apple.com/presentation/novemberpreso.html • Can use iTunes podcasts/vodcasts for this activity

  27. Q & A • Perhaps you have a question or comment, now is the time to raise your hand, receive a mic, use the ctrl key, and speak up or use the text chat :) • juparra@nmsu.edu • Want a copy of this PowerPoint?
