  2. When do you use double consonants like TT and PP in a word? • In most words with two syllables, if the first vowel sound is short, it is followed by double consonants. • KI EN A LE Short double Vowel consonants PP TT

  3. Note: vowel sound in the first syllable is a major clue. • PARROT • LETTER • KETTLE • ALLOW • APPLY • ACCEPT • SUPPLY • PUPPY

  4. REFLECT: As a group list as many words you can. See if your group gets the most after 2 minutes. TIP: Star with the letter ‘A’ and then ‘B, C, D’ etcetera

  5. Now Use it: Read the passage below and list all the words with double consonants. There are 17. • Annabelle’s flat was huge and bright, with a smashing view of the River. The gang were all sitting on the floor in a circle, in the middle of which Annabelle’s cats, Trish and Phipps, were playing with an old cornflakes packet. In the far corner sat a little old lady. In front of her was a large television set, which she was watching out of the corner of her eye. On her lap was a newspaper, which she was reading out of the corner of her other eye.
