French and Indian War. 1754-1763. Called French and Indian War because the British colonist fought Native Americans and the French. Treaty of Paris. An agreement to end the war by forcing France to give lands east of the Miss. River to Britain and forcing Spain to give G.B. Florida.

  2. Called French and Indian War because the British colonist fought Native Americans and the French

  3. Treaty of Paris • An agreement to end the war by forcing France to give lands east of the Miss. River to Britain and forcing Spain to give G.B. Florida. • In return Spain received French lands west of the Miss. River- Louisiana Purchase as well as the port of New Orleans

  4. British Victory Brings Trouble to Native Americans • Natives lost their French allies • British gained Ohio country and raised the prices of their goods • British settlers began moving into the valleys of Western Pennsylvania

  5. Pontiac War • An Ottawa Chief Pontiac formed a group of Native Americans to attack the British colonist, known as Pontiac’s War because of their mistreatment • 1763-1765 • In 1766, Chief Pontiac signed a peace treaty with the British and they pardoned (forgave) him

  6. Proclamation of 1763 • An effort by Britain to prevent fighting by putting a halt to Westward Expansion • King George III declared that the Appalachian Mountains were the temporary boundary for the colonies *THIS PROCLAMATION ANGERED MANY COLONIST!
