  1. Covenant Lesson 10

  2. Hebrews 9:1-7 • First Covenant had regulations for worshipping • The earthly tabernacle was where God met with His people • Behind the second veil was the Holy of Holies in which was the Ark of the Covenant • The holy place and the Holy of Holies were both under the tent, which was set up according to the pattern given Moses on the mountain • In the Divine Worship the priests continually offered sacrifices for the sins of the people • Once a year, the High Priest offered blood for the sins committed in ignorance; unintentional sins

  3. Hebrews 9:8-10 • There is significance in the symbolism of the offerings • While the Old Covenant was in effect, the way for ALL to come into the presence of God, was not disclosed • Offerings for sin pointed to the offering of Jesus • These gifts and offerings could never give a clean conscience to the worshiper • They were only until the time of reformation came

  4. Hebrews 9:11-17 • “Until a time of reformation” pointed to the coming of Jesus Christ • He was a High Priest of the good things to come • He entered the greater and more perfect Tabernacle, the heavenly one • He entered the holy place ONCE for ALL, by His own blood • Jesus’ blood brought ETERNAL redemption • No more need for earthly priests and sacrifices • His blood cleanses the conscience so that we can serve the living God as a priest • His death redeemed transgression in the Old Covenant

  5. Hebrews 9:18-22 • Blood inaugurated the Old Covenant • Moses sprinkled the people and the book of the Law • When the Tabernacle was completed, IT was sprinkled and cleansed with blood • Without the shedding of blood, there is no forgiveness of sin

  6. Hebrews 9:23-28 • The heavenly things were cleansed with blood as well, but with a better sacrifice; Jesus’ blood • Jesus entered the true holy place • He appears now in God’s presence for us • He is our High Priest, ever interceding • He made the way for us to come into the presence of Almighty God • He only had to offer Himself ONCE to bear the sins of many • He put away sin • He will appear a second time

  7. Hebrews 10:1-9 • The Law was a shadow of the good things to come • The sacrifices of the Law could never make perfect those who draw near. • The Law caused a remembrance of sins • No conscience was cleansed with those sacrifices • Christ’s body was prepared for the purpose of sacrifice • He came into the world for that very purpose • He took away the First, in order to establish the Second.

  8. Hebrews 10:10-18 • “By this will” Jesus came into this world • “By this will” believers in Jesus have been sanctified • AFTER He offered His body, He sat down at God’s right hand. • He sat down in the True Tabernacle. • He waits until the time His enemies will be His footstool – the Second Coming • He has perfected for all time those who are sanctified • There is forgiveness for sins; no longer reminders

  9. Hebrews 10:19-25 • These are the results of the New Covenant • Instructions to believers who are partakers of the New Covenant of salvation • Believers can have confidence to enter into the presence of Almighty God because of Jesus’ blood • His flesh was the veil that was torn in two. • The way to God has now been revealed • Instructions: Draw near • Hold fast • Consider

  10. Application • Have you entered into the New Covenant? • Do you boldly go before the throne of God, confident that He hears you and answers? • Do you draw near? • Do you hold fast the confession of your hope without wavering? • Do you consider how to stimulate others to love and good deeds? • Do WE encourage each other?
