GRADUATIONREQUIREMENTS STUDENTS MUST Earn a minimum of 21 credits including 4 English 3 Mathematics ( including Algebra 1 and Geometry) 3 Social Studies ( U.S. History, Government, World History) 3 Science (including Biology) 1 Fine Arts 1 Foundations of Technology ½ Personal Fitness ½ Health Education Complete a state-approved pathway to graduation which includes either 2 Foreign Language Credits OR 2 Advanced Technology Credits OR Completion of a state approved career and technology program such as Career Cooperative Education (work study) Complete 24 hours of student service. . (Obtain Site Approval before you do your hours)

  5. HSA • 2015 GRADUATES MUST TAKE AND PASS THE HSA TESTS. • Passing Scores: • Algebra 1 - 412 • Biology - 400 • English 10 - 396 A combined score of 1208. Make-up HSA Test- October 2014 Some students will be enrolled in an HSA AVP Course.

  6. SENIOR CONTRACTS • Counselors and students meet in the early fall to • discuss credits earned, graduation requirements and future • plans. • The contract is signed by the counselor and the student. • A copy of the contract is mailed home for parents and • students to review.

  7. RECOMMENDATIONS • Seniors needing a letter of recommendation or a secondary school report for college applications should do the following: • Complete a thorough resume (sample in folder). • Turn in resume and/or application to appropriate teacher/counselor. • Give 15 business days to complete letter of recommendation. • Students must pick up their letter of recommendation/ application. Guidance will not mail applications to the college.

  8. Transcript Request • Students should: • Submit the permission to release information form with appropriate signatures (needs to be submitted one time only). • Submit a transcript request form (one must be filled out every time a transcript is requested). • Give the Guidance secretary three –five business days to generate transcript. • Return to pick up transcript (Guidance will not mail or fax transcripts).

  9. FINAL GRADES • May 2015, each senior needing a final transcript must fill out a final transcript form. • Final transcript request forms must be submitted before the senior’s last day. • Bowie High School will mail the final transcript to the school requested.

  10. COLLEGE VISITS TO BOWIE • In September College Representatives schedule visits to BHS • Listen to morning announcements to hear the schedule of schools • Go to Guidance before 1st period on the day of the visit to obtain a pass • If a student obtains a pass and fails to show for the scheduled visit, they will not be permitted to attend any future college visits • Only sign up for schools that interest you • Prepare appropriate questions to ask the representatives

  12. COMMUNITY COLLEGE 2 YEAR INSTITUTION WHERE STUDENTS CAN EARN AN ASSOCIATES DEGREE, AND/OR TRANSFER CREDITS TO A 4 YEAR COLLEGE OR UNIVERSITY NO SAT/ACT SCORES ARE REQUIRED PLACEMENT EXAMS ARE REQUIRED TO DETERMINE A STUDENT’S LEVEL INTO COLLEGE LEVEL MATH AND ENGLISH COURSES
