  1. So what’s in the box? When you want to get a computer, what do you need and what will make it better?

  2. Whether you need the world’s largest, baddest, super computer, • or you need the smallest notebook computer around, • they will contain many of the same components.

  3. So, what do you need? 1: A box The box can be a desktop, tower, notebook, or other!

  4. 2: A “Motherboard” circuit board. This holds most of the components.

  5. 3: The “brains” of the computer, the CPU! The CPU also needs a fan attached to it to keep it cool!

  6. 4: Memory chips – RAM. (The more the merrier!) 5: To see things you need a video card

  7. 6: The long term memory – the HARD DRIVE ! 7: A CD/DVD drive

  8. 8: A power supply 9: Cables to connect everything to the motherboard

  9. There are many additional circuit boards that can be attached to the motherboard that perform different functions such as video capture cards, audio output cards, machine controllers, etc. Finally, don’t forget all of the components on the outside of the box. You will need a monitor, keyboard, mouse, and speakers. Other items may include a printer, modem, microphone, etc.

  10. A laptop or notebook computer has all of these same components. They have been made much smaller and use less electricity than a desktop computer. Their limitation is that the components cannot be replaced or upgraded easily. HAPPY COMPUTING!!!
