  2. Definition of a Cover Letter • A cover letter introduces you and your resume to a reader. • It gives you an opportunity to expand on material in the resume or include other experiences and qualifications.

  3. What a cover letter includes: • Your name, address, and phone number. • The date. • Name, title, and address, of the person receiving it. • The purpose of the letter – to go with your resume, to ask for an interview, to inquire about a position.

  4. What the Cover Letter Includes Cont’d… • A brief statement of your interest in the school, job, or program for which you are applying. • Highlights from your resume along with other pertinent information. • Mention of follow-up steps you plan to take. (ex: calling to arrange for an interview or inquire further.)

  5. And it includes… • How and where you can be reached for an interview or more information. • A thank you. • Formal Closing, Signature and your name typed out again at the bottom.
