WG 2 Representation Schemes • WG 2-2: CD 24614-1 Word Segmentation of Written Texts for Mono-lingual and Multi-lingual Information Processing – Part 1: General Principles and Methods • Project leaders: Maosong Sun, Gerhard Budin, Sue Ellen Wright, + Project leaders of 24614-2 • Being circulated for the first CD ballot • (Stage date: 2008-08-04, DIS limit date exceeded, risk, DIS: 2008-12-15) • WG 2-3: WD 24614-2 Word Segmentation of Written Texts for Mono-lingual and Multi-lingual Information Processing – Part 2: Word Segmentation for Chinese, Japanese and Korean • Project leaders: Maosong Sun, Key-Sun Choi, Hitoshi Isahara, + project leaders of 24614-1 • Delayed due to the incompletion of WD 24614-1 • (Stage date: 2008-08-04, DIS limit date exceeded, risk,DIS: 2008-12-15) ISO/TC37/SC4

  4. Progress on WordSeg • Four Day Meeting • Balancing between the Terms of Definition and the Main part on the Principles and Methods • Elaboration and More Concise Editing • One more editorial meeting is planned in Beijing on 1-2/Nov/2008 ISO/TC37/SC4

  5. Responsibility • Resolution 2008-27: Appointment of editor • SC 4 resolves that Jennifer DeCamp serve as editor for the work items 24614-1/2 Word segmentation – Parts 1 and 2, as is required by ISO Directives. ISO/TC37/SC4

  6. WG 2 Representation Schemes 2/2 • WG 2-4: CD 24615 Syntactic Annotation Framework (SynAF) • Project leader: Thierry Declerck • In preparation for submission for registration as DIS • Will be sent to DIS ISO/TC37/SC4

Joint Work • Resolution 2008-28: NWIPs with OMG • SC 4 resolves that the negotiations for the following joint activities be initiated with ISO/TC 37/SC 4 (Chair: Laurent Romary) and OMG (Liaison: Donald Chapin) under the Memorandum of Understanding between ISO and OMG and documented synchronization of their respective standardization processes provisional to the discussions at Pisa in September 2008: ISO/TC37/SC4

Joint Work • NWIP 24620 Language resource management – Simplified natural language – Part 1: Fundamental principles for the simplification of natural languages and Part 2: Simplified natural language and symbols for SVBR notations with Kiyong Lee as WG 2 convenor and Thierry Declerck as ISO project leader, and Donald Chapin, Christian Galinski and Alex Fang and members of the OMG submission team as editors. • NWIP 24621 Language resource management – Semantics and terminology of time – Part 1: Temporal ontology and reasoning ISO/TC37/SC4

  9. Establishment of Liaison • Resolution 2008-29 • SC 4 resolves that the establishment of liaison of Category A with ELRA (Liaison: Nicoletta Calzorari) be initiated immediately. ISO/TC37/SC4

ELRA • "The mission of the Association is to promote language resources (henceforth LRs) and evaluation for the Human Language Technology (HLT) sector in all their forms and all their uses, in a European context. Consequently the goals are : to coordinate and carry out identification, production, validation, distribution, standardisation of LRs, as well as support for evaluation of systems, products, tools, etc. - related to language resources." ISO/TC37/SC4

Extension of target dates •  Resolution 2008-30: Request for the extension of target dates • SC 4 resolves that the extension of target dates for the following projects be requested to ISO/CS TMB as necessitated by circumstances of each of the projects: • ISO CD/WD 24614-1/2 Word segmentation – Parts 1 and 2 (current state: critical) • ISO CD 24615 Syntactic annotation framework (current state: to be cancelled) • ISO WD 24616 Multilingual information framework (current state: warning) ISO/TC37/SC4

Resolution 2008-31: Meetings • SC 4 and its Working Groups resolve the following: • 2008-09-26/230, Pisa: That Nicoletta Calzolari host WGs meetings in Pisa, focusing on the projects LAF, SemAF/Time, SemAF/DActs, MLIF, and TDG 7. • 2008-11-1/2, Beijing: That Yu Xinli host WG 2 meetings in Beijing, focusing on the projects Word segmentation Parts 1 and 2. • 2009-01-05/08, Tilburg: That Harry Bunt host WGs meetings in Tilburg in conjunction with IWCS-9, focusing on the projects FSR/FSD, SemAF/DActs, TDG 3, and other NWIPs. • 2009-01-09/10, Nijmegen: That Peter Wittenburg host WGs meetings, focusing on CitER and DCR for semantics. • 2009-05-xx/yy, tentative; but there were proposals from: • Berlin: That Laurent Romary host the WGs meetings in Berlin, focusing on the projects MLIF, TDG 6 and others (TBD) • Or Brandeis: That James Pustejovsky host the WGs meetings at Brandeis,n Waltham, MA, focusing on WG 1 and WG 2 projects. • 2009-08-xx/yy, Bogota, Colombia: that the annual meetings of TC 37 and its SCs.
