  1. Warm-Up: November 14, 2012 • Use long division to evaluate the following. Give your answer as an integer and remainder. • 1084 divided by 8 • 9635 divided by 7 • 54321 divided by 18 135, r4 1376, r3 3017, r15

  2. Homework Questions?

  3. Dividing Polynomials Section 7.3 – Day 3

  4. Essential Question • How can we divide polynomials?

  5. Long Division of Polynomials • Example 1: x3+3x2-4x-12 divided by x-2

  6. Example 2

  7. You-Try: p. 446 #73

  8. Warm-Up: November 15, 2012

  9. Continuing 7.3 notes from yesterday

  10. Warm-Up Revisited

  11. Synthetic Division • Can only be used to divide a polynomial by a linear binomial of the form x-r. • Do not write the x’s, only the coefficients. • Write r in the upper left, and the coefficients of the polynomial on the top. • Polynomial must be in standard form. • Write a zero for any missing term.

  12. Example 3 • x3+3x2-4x-12 divided by x-2

  13. Example 4: p. 446 #87

  14. You-Try: p. 446 #89

  15. You-Try • The volume of a box is V(x)=4x3-92x2+448x • If the height is x-7, what is the area of its base?

  16. Assignment • Page 446 #71-89 odd
