  2. Birth • He was born in 1027 in Falaise Castle in Normandy • His death was in 1087 • He was known as William the Bastard • His father was Duke Robert

  3. Throne Problems • William the Conqueror had problems to get to his throne. He had competition with a man name Harold Godwineson. • Godwinson got the throne and William got very angry. • William the Conqueror asked the pope if he could begin planning his invasion and take over and get what was really his.

  4. War for the Throne • King Edward died in January 5, 1066 • He had no son so there was no one to take over the throne • William wanted that throne so it was a war till the end • That war led to the destruction of Anglo-Saxor rule of England

  5. The Next Rival • Harold the king of Norway also wanted the throne • Harold’s notifications were stronger then Williams • Harold ruled with his nephew Mangus, and Mangus took the throne of England • Mangus died and Hartacut took the throne • Harold immediately prepared to invade England

William gets the rights to the throne • A man named Duke was a distant cousin of Edward so he had a right to the throne • William found out and he said that Harold swore on the saints and that gave him the rights to the throne • Harold also denied to fulfill the wishes of Edward and that violated the oath • William got the support of the pope and they excommunicated Harold

  7. Invasion • A man named Harada was trying to invade England, he teamed up with Tostig who was Harold’s brother • Harada attacked and was destroying England, Harold got the news and made a new army • He attacked them in Stamford Bridge outside of York and won the battle • William came, but to late, everything was destroyed

  8. Death • In 1051 William became king • In 1053 he married this lady called Maltilda • William died in 1087 with his goal of becoming king, that was accomplished
