  1. DCA WP3 Report Worshops On-site Support to data centres Christophe Arviset ESA-VO, Spain

  2. Astronomical Spectroscopy and VO Workshop ESAC, 21-23 March 2007 http://esavo.esac.esa.int/SpectroscopyAndVOWorkshopMarch2007/

  3. March Spectro Workshop • Great success ! • Number of participants: 122, including visitors from NVO and JVO • Good mixture between scientists and developers • Good mixture between usual VO people and other people • VO experts present (four IVOA WG Chairs present in the Workshop) have gotten impressions from the Scientific Community. • Brief report should be presented at next IVOA interop in Beijing • Proceedings being prepared. • Deadline for submission : end of May

  4. March Spectro Workshop • Important topics discussed included: • Spectroscopic surveys • VO Spectroscopy Standards and tools • Spectroscopic Algorithms and tools • Photometry and callibration standards • Interface to Laboratory dbs and theoretical models • Scientific community not aware of VO practices has got a better idea of what the VO is about and what it can do for them • Concluding remarks from DCA Board and IVOA Chair • http://esavo.esac.esa.int/SpectroscopyAndVOWorkshopMarch2007/Genova.ppt

  5. EURO-VO Workshop on how to publish data in the VO ESAC, 25-29 June 2007 http://esavo.esac.esa.int/EuroVOWorkshopJune2007/

  6. Workshop Scope and Goals • Geared towards data centres and large projects to acquire the knowledge and experience necessary to allow them to become "publishers“ in the VO. • Small data providers not excluded • Max around 100 participants • 2 hotels with 30 rooms pre-booked in Madrid (near the Principe Pio train station. Very central and convenient). • Limited travel support from the EURO-VO DCA project • To be mentioned in announcement email for the registration • To be requested directly through the DCA national partner • Workshop pages created • http://esavo.esac.esa.int/EuroVOWorkshopJune2007/

  7. Workshop Organizing Committee members Pedro Osuna (ESA, Chair) Jesus Salgado (ESA) Markus Dolensky (ESO) Jonathan Tedds (AstroGrid) Kona Andrews (AstroGrid) Thomas Boch (CDS) Sebastian Derriere (CDS) Giuliano Taffoni (INAF) Local Organizing Committee members Isa Barbarisi (ESA) Aurelien Stebe (ESA) Pedro Osuna (ESA) Jesus Salgado (ESA) Asa Eriksson (ESA) Ruben Alvarez (ESA) Enrique Solano (SVO) WOC and LOC

  8. Workshop STOC activities • STOC finalizing discussions on: • Intended audience (data centres, large projects, smaller data providers ?) • Data types (spectra, images, …) to be published • Registration pages contents • Workshop format (general VO introduction, hands on, ….) • Registration will be sent tomorrow 4 May 2007 • Registration deadline end of May • To the EURO-VO registered list of people (c.f.: http://help.euro-vo.org/esupport/) • DCA Board and PCT members

  9. Workshop Content • Exact workshop contents and format to be decided in view of people’s interests. • Some general VO introduction • Tutorial and hands-on sessions • Participants could bring their own data • Make use of existing developed tools to publish data • Serious caveat: maturity of current IVOA Standards and availability of specifications. • eg, spectra are under a lot of demand, but SSAP v1.0 is still not there.

  10. Topics at Registration

  11. On-site Support to Data Centres

  12. On-Site Support to Data Centres • Link with the census of data centres • Shall we review the plan ?
