Learning Goals • General and Specific Disciplinary Knowledge and Skills: Each student should obtain required general and specialized management knowledge and skills for the creation of value through integrated operations and distribution of goods, services and information. • Written Communication Skills: The written communication skill is the skill of effectively presenting information in writing. • Oral Communication Skills: Each student can effectively present information orally. • Ethical Reasoning Skills: Ethical reasoning skill is the skill of reasoning about right and wrong personal and business conduct. • Information Technology Skills: Each student can use information technology to support the structure and processes of the organization, and use information technology in decision making. • Problem Solving Skills: Each student can apply knowledge in new and unfamiliar circumstances and devise solutions to cope with unforeseen events. • Global Context Skills: Each student can understand the global environment in which business is conducted.

  5. 1 - Recommendation • General and Specific Knowledge should be clarified to mean • “Each student should obtain required general and specialized management knowledge and skills for the creation of value through integrated operations and distribution of goods, services and information.” • Specific areas of general and specialized knowledge and skills include: • Accounting • Finance • Information Technology • Management • Marketing • Public Institutions • Supply Chain

  8. 4 - Recommendation • Develop an integrative undergraduate 998 course across concentrations: • Business Assessment Test (BAT) • Assess general and specific knowledge • Written reflection • Assess written communication skills, as well as ethical reasoning (problem solving and global context)

  9. 5 - Recommendation • Consider changes to the MBA Portfolio program to assess the core courses: • Business Assessment Test (BAT) • Assess general and specific knowledge • Written reflection • Assess written communication skills, as well as ethical reasoning (problem solving and global context)

  10. 6 - Recommendation • Re-introduce the MGMT 306 Common Examination • Encourage faculty to assign more writing assignments • Provide a writing rubric for faculty use • Request writing prompts for MGMT 306

  11. 7 - Recommendation • Replace the undergraduate upper division MGMT 330 (Legal Environment of Business) course with MGMT 350 (Administrative Communication). • Currently, there is no viable alternative in terms of class content and size that lends itself toward assessing and developing oral communication.

  12. 8 - Recommendation • Add MGMT 642 (Communication and Interpersonal Process) as part of the MBA core course requirements. • Encourage faculty to assign more oral presentations, provide a presentation rubric. • Using MKTG 605 – Marketing Management as an alternative to both assess and develop oral communication skills.

  13. 9 - Recommendation • Continue to monitor Ethical Reasoning • BAT (for ethical content knowledge) • 998 reflective essay (to provide different data points for student ethical development)

  14. 10 – Recommendation • AoLData Cycle • 2013-2014 • Fall – review report • Winter – review data collection • Spring – data collection • 2014-2015 • Fall – review data • Winter – discuss recommendations • Spring – implement recommendations • AoL Report Consultation • All information for each cycle will be placed on the CBPA Intranet Site. • Reviewed/discussed after each quarterly all-CBPA meeting in a faculty senate forum.
