  2. How are Resumes Different? • How long should it be? • What should be listed first? • What order should you follow? • What format should you use?

  3. For Education…. • Should be about 2 pages • Include reference contact information • List your objective, followed by your education and certifications earned

  4. Do Not Include “Work Experience”, Instead…. • Title it “Professional Experience” • Include everything related to teaching, both content and young people related • List positions and activities starting with the most recent experiences first • Show increased responsibility • Use short, active sentences that describe what you did or learned • Provide dates

  5. Headings to Include in the Resume • Your heading with name and contact info • Objective • Education • Professional Experience– Begin with student teaching! • Honors and Activities • Skills • References

  6. General Suggestions • Use natural toned stationary that copies well • Use readable fonts that match the cover letter • Triple check grammar and spelling! • Use a format that is easy to glance for information, that copies clean • Do NOT include personal information like height, weight, health status, marital status, or religious beliefs

  9. COVER LETTER: Parts to Include • Letterhead– Should match your resume exactly • Date • Address Block—Complete name, position, address • Salutation– Dear Dr. Seuss: • Opening Paragraph– How did you hear about the position?; What position are you applying for?
