Germany addresses poaching on different political levels • High Level Dialogue with producing and consuming countries (e.g. UNGA Event on Poaching Sept 26th) • Active Member of CITES • Support for the Intl. Elephant Summit in Botswana Dec 2014 • New: Special Program of different German Ministries with focus on training/ enforcement capapcities/ research and awarenes campaigns with national authorities and international NGOs (Polifonds) • Bilateral Biodiversity Program with Tanzania

  3. “Conservation and Sustainable Use of Biodiversity in Tanzania” Bilateral Programme 2013-2016, 31,5 Mio. € (20.5 Mio. € FC Serengeti, 8 Mio. € FC Selous, 3 Mio. € TC national & district level) What do we want to achieve? “The effective conservation and sustainable use of natural resources contributes to rural development in selected districts and ensures that globally significant ecosystems remain intact”

  4. How do we want to achieve this? By working closely with MNRT- WD, LGA and TANAPA on… • Reform of wildlife management • Strengthening district authorities in natural resource management • Community-based conservation and benefit-sharing (through FZS and WWF) • Strengthening the management of Serengeti and Selous • Improving social and economic infrastructure in selected districts and the protected areas
