  2. Purpose of a PowerPoint Presentation • To act as a guide, supplementary tool, etc. during a presentation • It SHOULD NOT BE the entire presentation!

  3. 3 PowerPoint Rules • Light on Dark, Dark on Light • Light backgrounds, dark text, vice versa • 6 x 6 Rule • No more than 6 bullets per slide and 6 words per bullet; use short phrases or keywords to trigger thoughts and the main ideas • Don’t overdo your animations!

  4. DIFFERENT VIEWS & THEIR ICONS Normal View • Used to create the slides • Add text, objects, animations, transitions Slides Tab • Displays slides as small thumbnails • Allows you to easily see the order & change it Outline Tab • Displays all text on your slides in outline form

  5. Slide Sorter View • Displays all slides as thumbnails • Allows you to easily click & drag the thumbnails when moving or rearranging them Slide Show View • Runs the presentation!! • On Keyboard . . . F5 Key

  6. Notes Page View • Can view the notes you’ve entered in the Notes Pane & add more here • Slide is on top • Speaker notes on bottom • Helpful during presentations Slide Master View • Changes made here controls all formatting and appears on all slides • Each layout has a layout master

  7. VOCABULARY TERMS The way a slide appears on the screen Transition: Custom Animation: Motion given to text, graphics, or pictures Placeholders: Dashed, outlined box where information can be placed

  8. Layout: Where the placeholders for various objects are placed on a slide Themes: Examples: Title Slide, Title & Content, Two Content, Title Only, Blank, Content with Caption, etc. Predesigned graphic styles - Color Scheme, Fonts, Formatting, Layouts
