  4. Methods of Research • We looked through city directories, direct tax records, and fire insurance records • We identified the merchants • Found where in Philadelphia they resided • We looked up old Philadelphia maps to identify roads and locations that do not exist anymore

  5. What We Found

  6. Problems With Our Research • Difficult to identify streets that have been renamed • Lacking information about specific merchants • Information is not consistent over time • Unsure of time period tenants occupied residence
