  1. Welcome to Mrs. Frushour’s Class 7th Grade Social Studies History of the Medieval World

  2. What is the focus of study this year in Social Studies? • Your child will learn about the World during the Middle Ages. • Unit One: Fall of Rome (Picking up where sixth grade left off.) • Unit Two: Medieval Europe • Unit Three: Medieval Middle East (Including the Crusades) • Unit Four: Medieval Africa • Unit Five: Medieval Asia • Unit Six: Medieval Americas ~ Aztecs, Mayas and Incas • We end with the exploration of the conquistadors to the Americas, and eighth grade picks up where we leave off… with the exploration and colonization of North America.

  3. What is Mrs. Frushour’sGrading Policy? • My student’s work is broken up into two different categories: • Assessments:……………………………….. 50% • Tests • Projects • Assignments: …………………………………50% • Class Work • Homework • Participation • I have HIGHexpectations for my students, but in my experience, they rise to the occasion.

  4. What is Mrs. Frushour’sLate Work Policy? • Assignments: • One Day Late = 10% off • Two Days Late = NO CREDIT • Long Term Projects: • One Day Late = 50 % off • Two Days Late = NO CREDIT (This is due to the fact that students have weeks to complete long term projects.) • Work with NO NAME will be taped to my black board to be retrieved by students, and handed in to Mrs. Frushour for credit.

  5. How Does Mrs. FrushourHandle Absences? • If your child is absent from my class, I will place their missed work in one of the appropriate folders on the bulletin board, next to my classroom door. • It is their responsibility to get their missed work and ask me any questions they might have about the assignment. • I will place the due date on the missed assignment, and your child will follow that date to make sure it’s not late, not the due date the rest of the class was given.

  6. Why might your child be assigned Academic Completion Hall? • ACH will only be assigned to students when they cannot make up their assignment or assessment at home. • For example: a Unit or CRES Test • ACH is not a punishment, only extra time to complete missed work. • Mrs. Frushour is the ACH monitor on Wednesdays, so if your child is assigned ACH and you would like to make sure they have my guidance, I will be there with them on Wednesdays.

  7. What is Mrs. Frushour’sDiscipline Policy? • Warning • CODE Slip • Phone Call Home/ Parent Contact • After School Detention • Referral • It is my preference to handle any issues in class because the more immediate a consequence the better. • However, if your child is sent home with an After School Detention slip, it is a big deal… last year with a total of 170 students, I only had to assign six After School Detentions.

  8. What materials/ techniques are used to teach your child? • Materials: • History Alive Textbook • Medieval Times to Today Textbook • Non-Fiction Texts and Encyclopedias • On Line Articles & Sources • Kids Discover Magazine • Discovery Education & other Film Clips • Atlases, Maps & Globes • Timelines • Techniques • Independent Work • Small Group Work • Class Discussions • Role Play • Simulations • Research Projects • Working with Technology- • Microsoft Word • Microsoft Publisher • Microsoft PowerPoint • Data Camera & Projector • Fieldtrip

  9. What are Mrs. Frushour’sGoals for your Child? • Mastery of the Curriculum • Increase Time Management Skills • Better Understanding of how to Prioritize Work • Working Cooperatively with all students, even those who might not be their friend • Working Productively with all students, including their friends • Improvement in their reading and writing skills • At the end of the day, it’s my goal that your child didn’t even realize how much they learned, because they were having so much fun in the process. ~Mrs. Frushour

  10. Parents/ Guardians, If there is any way that I can help, in making your child’s education more productive or enjoyable, please let me know. If you have any questions, please don’t hesitate to ask, that’s why I’m here. ~Mrs. Frushour
