  2. Remember…. • All the nouns in Arabic are either Masculine or Feminine.

  3. Noun (Ism)  Quantity • Each Noun in Arabic is of Specific Quantity, meaning its either • Singular : • When its ONE only • Dual : • When its exactly TWO • Plural: • When its THREE or MORE

  4. ARABIC TERMS are … • Singular واحد (wahid) • Dual تثنيه (Tathniyah) • Plural جمع(jam’ )

  5. Dual < تثنيه > • It is formed by Adding following suffixes to the original noun • Alif and Noon ﺍﻥ • Ya and Noon ين • Examples : الْمَلَكَيْنِ - شَهِيدَيْنِ – امْرَأَتَانِ

  6. Plural < جمع > • Two Types of Plural • Sound Plural جمع سالم • Broken / Irregular Plural جَمِع مُکَسَر

  7. Sound Plurals: • The singular word is suffixed by a plural sign • Singular word remains intact • Like in English boy  Boys -- book  books • Plural signs are • Waw & Noon ﻭﻥ • Yaa & Noon ين • Alif & taaﺍﺕ changes to ﺔ Note • ﺍﺕ / ﺔ are used for Feminine Nouns

  8. Broken Plurals : • The singular word doesn’t remain intact anymore • There are no fix changes • Like in English: man  men … • child  children

  9. What you need to do is….. • Know the singulars of nouns that will come in your lessons How? • If you see suffixes for Sound Plural • Just remove them to form Singular example : الْفَاسِقُونَ الْفَاسِق • If it’s a broken Plural  Learn its singular

  10. How to make singular… • For Sound plurals • Just remove the suffix in case of ﻭﻥ & ين • In case of ﺍﺕ replace it with a ﺔ • For Broken plurals -- > learn them

  11. Take a note ….. • Sometimes in case of suffix ين (sound plural) only noon is removed Example : الْمُتَّقِينَ الْمُتَّقِX الْمُتَّقِينَ الْمُتَّقِي • Its very rare

  12. Don’t be confused…. • Feminine Sound Plural : • Suffix ﺍﺕ is written both ways جَنَّـٰتٍ OR جَنَّاتٍ • Whether its with proper Alif or small Alif (Alifsuqra) , to make a singular replace it with a ﺔ جَنَّاتٍ جَنَّةَ جَنَّـٰتٍ جَنَّةَ
