  10. Monitors Characteristic • Refresh rate: The frequency at which a picture is redrawn on the screen. • Persistence: How long the phosphors continue emit light after the CRT beam is removed. • Resolution: The number of points per centimeter that can be plotted horizontally and vertically .

Monitors Characteristic (con.) • Refresh buffer: • Memory area in which the picture definition is stored. • It also called frame buffer ,where the term frame refers to the total screen area. • This memory holds the set of color values for the screen points. And for that sometimes it called color buffer. • Pixel: (Shortened forms of picture element) Each screen spot that can be illuminated by the electron beam

  12. Monitors Characteristic (con.) • Aspect ratio: The number of pixel columns divided by the number of scan lines that can be displayed by the system. It also can be described as the number of horizontal points to vertical points.

  13. Exercise • Consider two different raster systems with resolutions of 640 by 480 and 1280 by 1024, What size frame buffer (in bytes) is needed for each of these systems to store 12 bits per pixel?
